How to get to Niseko?

December 19, 2011 Leave a comment

It takes about 2 and a half hours to Niseko from Sapporo or Shin-Chitose Airport

by car or bus, but you could also get on a train from Sapporo.

This is the single-car train I took the other day to get to Niseko.

Doesn’t it look cute?

Mt. Yotei (aka Mr. Fuji in Hokkaido) can be seen between trees.

This is Higashiyama area in Niseko.  The photo was taken last week.

Now Niseko is completely ready and the visitors are enjoying skiing in the powder snow!

Date Jidaimura in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido, is a theme park set in the Edo Period (1603-1867).

You can meet a Samurai here.

(The one in the right is “Nyanmage”, the mascot of Jidaimura.)

You can also enjoy the Samurai show —

–and  Ninja show!!

You could also take a picture with those “Oiran”, samurai, and ninja.

This is the good place to have fun and learn about the culture of Edo period.

Here’s the website of Date Jidaimura:

Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo

December 2, 2011 2 comments

“Munich Christmas Market” in Sapporo has begun!

This christmas market started in 2002, which marked the 30th anniversary

since Sapporo and Munich became sister cities.

There are many shops in the market.  You can find various things including

Finnish handicrafts, lace window decoration from Germany,  Snow Globe from Austria,

and even “Santa Claus Matryoshoka Doll”!

You can also enjoy food and drinks there.

Hot wine that is served in this market is my favorite!

Today I went to the Market with a friend of mine and we enjoyed

Glühwein and “German” rooibos tea in the cold temperature.

(today’s maxim temperature was 1 degree celsius, and the minimum -3)

It was around 2 or 3 o’clock, so there were not so many people in the site,

but when it’s night, the odori park that holds this market is lightened up,

and many people visit here to enjoy beautiful illumination.

“Munchner Weihnacht in Sapporo” Mug has a different design each year

and it’s very popular as a souvenir.
