Sapporo Ban.K Ski Area Again

January 29, 2012 2 comments

Again to Bankei Ski Area!

A mountain in the distance seen in the picture above is Mt. Teine, which hosted the

alpine skiing, bobsleigh, and luge events in the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games.

The weather was fine and from the top of the ski slope, we could see

the view of Sapporo city and the sea of Japan, even.

Was a really good day for skiing!

A Once-in-Ten-Year Kind of Cold Winter

January 29, 2012 Leave a comment

Saw this from the window of Asahikawa JR station yesterday.

Hokkaido is now having a once-in-ten-year kind of cold winter, and

the minimum temperature on this day in Asahikawa marked minus 20 degrees Celsius!

When I arrived at the Asahikawa station at 9:00 in the morning, the thermometer read

minus 15 degrees C, and I could see diamond dust even in downtown Asahikawa!

Also all the trees — even trees in downtown area were covered with soft rime.

You can see soft rimed trees behind the snowman in the picture.

Another soft rimed tree in Asahikawa.

Yay!  Not only Sapporo but also Asahikawa has “Animate”!

It’s the place you can find various goods about anime and manga, including

Naruto, Gintama, and One-piece.

“Animate Asahikawa” is on the 3rd floor of Esta building

just in front of JR Asahikawa station.

Opens from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Frosty the Snowman

January 20, 2012 Leave a comment

Many “Western” snowmen consist of three snow balls.

–while Japanese traditional snowmen consist of two snowballs.

Well, that’s what I often explain to my foreign guests when we see a snowman.

But the other day a person from Singapore told me that she had only seen

two-snowball type snowmen and when she thought of a snowman

she thought of a two-snowball snowman.

Which made me curious: when you think of a snow man,

is it a “western-style” snowman made out of three snowballs, or

a Japanese-style snowman of two snowballs?

The other day Hatsune Miku “Costume Play” party was held in Sapporo, Hokkaido!

I was there as an interpreter, but unfortunately (or rather fortunately?), I’m not in this video.

You can look at the video and check what the “Hatsune Miku Cosplay Party” was like:

My (Dog’s) Favorite Things

January 16, 2012 Leave a comment

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens –well, not exactly.

My dog loves legs of a chair…

…and stuffed animals  (the picture above is a former stuffed animal).

Also a limited version of _K-on_’s chocolate box!

Can you see the bite marks on the four corners on the box?

Fortunately, the inside of the box was safe (chocolate is not good for a dog).

So, I didn’t have a choice but to eat all the chocolate inside and to hurry on

to Lawson to get the new one!
