Furano Ski Resort!

One of the most famous ski resorts in Hokkaido.

The resort has had the FIS Alpine Ski World Cups in the past

and Snowboarding World Cups in recent years.

You can command a great view of Tokachi mountain range and the town of Furano

from the top of the ski slope.

At the foot of the mountain, just near the gondola station.

You can see the ski slope in the distance.

The gondola takes you from the foot of the mountain to the top in 15 minutes.

This is a good place for finding souvenirs as well as walking around.

This year’s Sapporo snow festival has again the Snow Miku event.

“Snow Miku” is the Sapporo winter version of Hatsune Miku.

This year’s Snow Miku statue is larger than the past few years.

Limited Snow Miku products such as T-shirts and stickers are sold

at the Sapporo Snow Festival Odori site.

When I visited there, it seemed people who wanted to buy Snow Miku goods

had to wait, standing on a line, for two hours!

There was a statue of Snow Miku at the Sapporo railway station, too

(though not made of snow).

Squid in Hakodate

December 23, 2013 Leave a comment

squid

This is a squid brooch I made in Hakodate.

Visitors there can enjoy the hand-on-experience of making a squid pin.

Why squid??

Because Hakodate is famous for squid!!

It’s a symbol of the city.

In Hakodate, people can eat fresh raw squid, taste squid-ink soft ice cream,

and dance the squid dance.

A Hello Kitty shop in Hokkaido

April 3, 2012 Leave a comment

If you are looking for Hello Kitty items in Sapporo, this shop is the right place to go.

It’s in the Sapporo station underground shopping mall,

and the huge Hello Kitty in front of the shop will welcome you!

And even if you miss the shop, you don’t need to worry.

There’s a Hello Kitty shop in the Shin Chitose Airport, too.

You can get Hello Kitty goods that are available only in this shop!

Hatsune Miku at the Chitose Airport

March 22, 2012 Leave a comment

Snow Miku Figure for gashapon (Capsule toys) is now sold at New Chitose Airport terminal!

This snow miku figure is one of the eight “Hokkaido Figure Miyage (souvenir)”,

which is New Chitose Airport Limited sell,

so it would be a perfect souvenir of Hokkaido!

Those “Hokkaido Figure Miyage” include:

1 Sapporo Clock Tower

2 The statue of Dr. Clark

3 A sleeper express “Hokutosei”

4 A statue of Sapporo snow Festival

5 Hokkaido Red Fox

6 Salmon

7 Soup curry

8 Hatsune Miku

Since this is a gashapon (coin-operated toy vending machine) toy,

you cannot tell which toy you will get!

It’s 300 yen for one try.

So, these are “gashapon” at the New Chitose Airport.

You can easily find them at the airport.

The probability of drawing a Hatsune Miku capsule is a one-in-eight,

but fortunately I draw the right one at the first try.

The parts of the figure are in the capsule.

Voila!  It has become a cute little Hatsune Miku (snow miku) figure.
