Gundam Newspaper!!

August 10, 2015 Leave a comment

Asahi Shimbun Newspaper has just released a special issue called
“Asahi Shimbun Mobile Suit Gundam Edition”!!

I happened to find this copy today at a convenience store
when I went there to buy “Shukan Shonen Jump”.

It is just amazing. The paper says that this is the January 1st,
0080 (Cosmic Century) issue, which seems to be equivalent to
August 6th, 2015 AD.

Good job, Asahi Shimbun!

Hokkaido limited versions of Chopper and Hatsune Miku

March 23, 2012 2 comments

If you are looking for a souvenir that is available only in Hokkaido,

how about this one — Hokkaido local versions of Chopper of “One Piece”.

There are many kinds of choppers!

Hokkaido melon Chopper, Hokkaido ramen Chopper, Hokkaido deer Chopper…

And these are Snow Miku × Hello Kitty character goods.

Snow Miku, a local version (or should I say seasonal version?) of Hatsune Miku

teamed up with Hello Kitty for a line of Hatsune Miku character goods including

Snow Miku Kitty handkerchief, Snow Miku Kitty socks, Snow Miku Kitty ball point pen…

All those goods are sold at a souvenir shop “Shikisai-kan”, next to the west ticket gate

of Sapporo JR station.

Yay!  Not only Sapporo but also Asahikawa has “Animate”!

It’s the place you can find various goods about anime and manga, including

Naruto, Gintama, and One-piece.

“Animate Asahikawa” is on the 3rd floor of Esta building

just in front of JR Asahikawa station.

Opens from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Otaku spots in Sapporo, Hokkaido

January 6, 2012 2 comments

Otaku spots in Hokkaido?  Well, you might want to go to “Animate”,

where you can find a lot of items related to anime and manga.

You can find the shop at:

the 2nd F of Marudai-building, South 2, West 5, Sapporo

(the building itself is a bit difficult to find, but there’s a drug store called

“Daikoku Drug” on the first floor)

Opens from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Another spot is “Gamers” (2nd floor of No. 5 Fujii-building, south 1 west 2, sapporo),

a similar shop to “Animate”.  Opens from 10 am to 8 or 9 pm.

One more: “Tora no ana”, another similar anime & manga shop.

1st floor of Nibankan-building, south 2 west 1, Sapporo.

Opens 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

All those shops are a bit difficult to find, but they all are near “Daiso”,

a hundred yen shop in south 2 west 2, so you can use this 100 yen shop

as a landmark.

My recommendation is definitely “Animate”, because it has the best range of goods,

and you won’t be embarrassed even if you go there with your parents

(you might be in two other shops)!

Toyako Manga Anime Festa 2011

June 14, 2011 2 comments

“Toyako Manga Anime Festa 2011” will be held at Lake Toya this weekend

(June 18 – 19, 2011).

“Toyako” means “Lake Toya”.

This is the place where the G8 summit meeting was held in 2008,

and now it becomes an otaku spot!

The festival has various events including “cosplaying ” and “itasha exhibition”.

“Itasha” literally means “ouch car” and refers to a car having a picture of

a manga or anime character  on its body.

In “cosplaying”, people dress up in the costumes of their favorite anime, manga,

and movie characters.

So, you might want to go to Lake Toya in the costume of —

Hatsune Miku or —

a Gundam character, and meet a lot of other cosplayers!!
