Teine Highland!

“Sapporo Teine” ski resort is located on Mt. Teine (1023m) and it was a venue

for alpine skiing, luge, and bobsleigh at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics.

You can see the olympic rings on the wall of the building in the picture.

Sapporo Teine ski resort consists of “Highland zone” and “Olympia zone”

and those two zones are connected with gondolas.

We went skiing today.  This is Sapporo Bankei Ski Area, only 20 minutes

from downtown Sapporo.

ski-bankei

It was a fine day and we could command a view of Sapporo city

from the top of the mountain.

ski-yubari1

Our first ski of the season was in late December at Mt Racey Ski Resort in Yubari.

It was a perfect day for skiing, as you can see in the picture above.

The view was awesome.

Also the quality of snow was excellent!!

This season is really good for skiers, because this winter we have an _unusual_

amount of snow in Hokkaido!

To Niseko

February 19, 2012 Leave a comment

It’s a perfect day for skiing today!  Now let’s go to Niseko, powder snow wonderland!

The weather was indeed nice —

but as we were approaching Niseko, snow started to fall —

and it was snowing heavily in Niseko, and the temperature was minus 11 degrees celsius!

….

Enjoyed skiing anyway, fully armed with a mask and a neck muffler.

Tomamu Ski Resort

Tomamu ski resort in the morning!  A powder-snow paradise!

Mountains surrounding the ski resort.

“Ice Village” opens 5 pm to 10 pm.

Behind the “Ice Village”, you can see the ski slopes on the left

and “The Tower” hotel on the right.

The village has several ice buildings including this Ice Bar.

People can enjoy sake cocktail in an ice glass —

— sitting on an ice chair!

The village even has an “Ice Chapel”, where a real wedding ceremomy can be held.
